According to a report by The Nation on Tuesday, 8 July, 2025, former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has openly criticised former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, accusing him of leaving a legacy marked by debt, disunity, and disregard for the rule of law during his time in office.
Speaking during a political programme on television, Shehu Sani questioned El-Rufai’s political influence in the state.
He pointed to the 2023 elections as proof that the former governor’s popularity had declined significantly.
According to Sani, El-Rufai’s party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), performed poorly in the last general elections.
The party lost all three senatorial seats and most of the House of Assembly seats in Kaduna State, barely managing to retain the governorship.
He also accused the previous administration of ignoring court rulings during El-Rufai’s time as governor.
Sani claimed that several citizens, including civil servants and property owners, obtained valid court orders that were not enforced.
He further criticised the manner in which the government under El-Rufai treated workers and teachers, suggesting that their rights were often violated.
He argued that such actions contributed to the public’s rejection of the APC at the polls.
Shehu Sani’s comments reflect growing tension among political leaders in Kaduna, especially as the current government tries to address the challenges left behind.
His remarks are likely to stir further debate as the state continues its efforts to move forward.
He said: “Throughout his tenure, Kaduna State never obeyed court rulings. Civil servants, teachers, and property owners obtained court orders which were ignored.
