Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Kaduna State, Reverend John Hayab, has strongly criticized former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, labeling him a liar and accusing him of spreading false information to advance his personal agenda.
Speaking in an interview with TVC News Nigeria on Tuesday from 5:00, Hayab dismissed El-Rufai’s claim that Southern Kaduna accounts for only 25 percent of the state’s population, insisting that the assertion is entirely false. He explained that El-Rufai introduced this divisive narrative and even attempted to compare the population of Southern Kaduna with that of Muslims in Plateau State.
According to Hayab, El-Rufai claimed that Christians in Kaduna State constitute 30 percent of the population, similar to the percentage of Muslims in Plateau State. Based on this argument, El-Rufai allegedly maintained that Christians in Kaduna State should not be given the deputy governor position, just as Muslims in Plateau State do not hold the same office.
Hayab emphasized that these claims were fabricated to justify El-Rufai’s decision to adopt a Muslim-Muslim ticket during his tenure as Governor of Kaduna State.
He said: “El-Rufai came up with this divisive idea by equating the population of Southern Kaduna with the Muslims in Plateau because that was the language he used in 2016. He said the Muslims in Plateau State are 30%, just like the Christians in Kaduna are 30%, so if the Muslims in Plateau State are not given deputy Governor, the Christians shouldn’t be given deputy Governor. He deliberately brought up that conversation to use it to justify his agenda.”
