In a pointed critique aired on News Central TV from 5:25, former National Coordinator of the Middle Belt Patriots, Zaroyi Yusuf accused former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai of political opportunism alleging that El-Rufai’s support for any administration hinges solely on personal alignment and benefit.
Yusuf made the remarks during a political discourse on the state of governance and economic hardship currently being faced by Nigerians. He claimed El-Rufai’s attitude toward the current administration would be drastically different if he were politically aligned with those in power.
“I am most certain that for a man like Nasir El-Rufai, if he was embraced, if he was at the corner of the table of this administration,” Yusuf said during the interview, “I would say to you even if a bag of rice is sold for N500,000 and a litre of oil sold for N5,000, he will tell you every good thing about the regime.”
The statement, which has since gone viral on social media has sparked public debate on the sincerity and loyalty of political figures in Nigeria. Many citizens have expressed agreement with Yusuf, citing a pattern of shifting loyalties among the political elite depending on who holds power.
El-Rufai, a controversial and vocal figure in Nigerian politics has not responded to the comments as of the time of this report.
Yusuf’s remarks come amid soaring food prices and worsening economic indicators across the country. A standard bag of rice now sells for over N80,000 in some parts of Nigeria, while basic cooking oil continues to climb in price, raising concerns about the cost of living and food security.
