In a recent interview on News Central TV from 9:02, Dr. Sam Amadi, Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thought, analysed the political landscape following key defections into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections. He focused on the strengths and limitations of major political actors within the coalition.

According to Dr. Amadi, “El-Rufai doesn’t have the mass appeal that comes across the same way Buhari had in the North.” He explained that while El-Rufai possesses political experience, intensity, and visibility, he has yet to build the kind of widespread support among northern voters that former President Muhammadu Buhari enjoyed.

Amadi noted that this lack of mass appeal could impact the ADC’s ability to consolidate votes in key regions. He emphasized that for the coalition to become a significant contender, it must pair high-profile figures with candidates who resonate broadly with the electorate.

The analyst highlighted that strategic positioning, timing, and coalition-building will be critical in shaping the party’s prospects. While El-Rufai brings political influence and organisational skills, converting these into votes requires careful mobilisation and messaging that inspires public confidence.

Dr. Amadi also warned that defections alone do not guarantee electoral success. Mass appeal, credibility, and unity within the party are essential for sustaining momentum and translating political realignment into tangible gains at the polls.

He concluded that while El-Rufai is a formidable political operator, the ADC must complement his strengths with candidates who can ignite widespread support, especially in the North, to mount a credible challenge against established parties in the 2027 elections. View, More,
