In an interview with Arise News From 38:24, former Edo State Commissioner for Information, Kassim Afegbua, criticized the credentials of Asue Ighodalo while defending the grassroots connection of All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Monday Okpebholo.

Afegbua, who has been an outspoken advocate of the APC, accused critics of misrepresenting Okpebholo’s capabilities and dismissed the notion that his rival, Asue Ighodalo, was a better candidate. “It’s very convenient for people to come on TV and tell lies,” Afegbua remarked during the interview. He pointed to the APC’s campaign in Uromi as evidence of Okpebholo’s strong ties to the local Esan community. “We ran our campaign in Uromi on live TV, and Monday Okpebholo spoke in the language of the Esan. Their candidate speaks with an interpreter. It’s on record,” he added.

Afegbua did not stop there. He took direct aim at Asue Ighodalo, highlighting what he described as significant failures in Ighodalo’s business leadership roles. “You have catalogued the credentials of an Ighodalo, who is the adviser-in-chief of Obaseki. I’m shocked that an Asue, whom you portray as the Chairman of Nigerian Breweries, posted a 106 billion naira loss at Nigerian Breweries back-to-back—75 billion and 106 billion,” Afegbua stated.

The former Commissioner further criticized Ighodalo for his tenure as Chairman of Sterling Bank, questioning his impact on local development. “He was the Chairman of Sterling Bank. Not one of the branches is in the entire Esan land to add to the economy of the Esan people,” Afegbua pointed out.
