Archbishop Raphael Opoko has stated that the continued detention of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, is a sign of deep injustice, explaining that Kanu’s agitation for Biafra should not be seen as rebellion, but as a call for fairness and equal rights for the Igbo people, as reported by VANGUARD.

According to the Archbishop, Kanu’s message was simple: if Nigeria cannot give the Igbo equal access and opportunity, then a referendum should be allowed.

This, he said, is a peaceful demand, not a crime and pointed to examples in education, where students from the South-East with high scores are denied admission, while others with much lower scores gain entry and even rise to powerful positions.

Archbishop Opoko said such unfair treatment builds anger and frustration and warned that when people are pushed to the wall for too long, they will push back.

He also raised concerns about how young Igbo people are reacting to these injustices.

He said they are watching the way their people are treated and may one day take strong actions of their own.

“Why should someone from the Southeast score 230 in JAMB and still not get admission, while someone from elsewhere scores below 100 and gets in? Then the same person with 100 becomes head of ministries and parastatals. When you oppress people, they become resilient,” he said.
