Public Affairs Analyst Dr. Olumide Marindoti has alleged that deploying Lieutenant A.M. Yerima to defend a plot of land on behalf of a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo against the FCT Minister constitutes an illegal act that violates the Nigerian Constitution.

Speaking in an interview with TVC from 8:00, Dr. Marindoti criticized the misuse of military resources amid Nigeria’s serious security challenges. “Trump said he’s going to come to our country. We have people being killed in the middle belts. We have terrorism going on in the north. Kidnapping all around. We are deploying a member of the military being paid by the taxpayers to defend a plot of land of a man who is now a civilian in contravention of the authority of the federal capital territory. Is that what we want to turn the country into? A land of lawlessness where the military is above the law?” he said.

The analyst emphasized that only one authority can legally deploy military personnel in Nigeria. “There is only one person according to the Nigerian constitution and the armed forces act that has the authority to deploy military for whatever purpose it is, and that is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He is the commander-in-chief,” he alleged.

Dr. Marindoti argued that the unauthorized deployment of military personnel to protect private land interests represents a dangerous pattern of military overreach in civilian matters.

According to the analyst, this incident illustrates how military personnel continue to act beyond their constitutional mandate and oppressing civilians in Nigeria’s democratic system. View, More,
