Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has spoken about the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and why he believes the country should not be poor.

Speaking in a coverage by Symfoni TV, Obasanjo stated that the Democratic Republic of Congo shares borders with nine countries, making it the African country with the most neighboring nations. He mentioned that the country is so large it operates in two different time zones. He explained that the time in Kinshasa is one hour behind the time in Goma.

Obasanjo further stated that the DRC is two and a half times the size of Nigeria and has about one-third of Nigeria’s population. He also stated that the country holds about 60 percent of the world’s cobalt reserves. He expressed concern that despite these advantages, the DRC is still considered one of the poorest countries in Africa.
