Demola Olarewaju, Special Adviser on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President and 2023 PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, has reacted following a controversial move by Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo.
The minister recently took to X, publicly tagging U.S. President Donald Trump in a lengthy note, urging him to reconsider his critical remarks about Nigeria’s security challenges.
This came after Trump highlighted alleged instability and persecution of Christians in the country, prompting Keyamo’s defense of Nigeria’s efforts against insurgency and banditry.
The backlash was swift, with political aide Demola Olarewaju, affiliated with opposition leader Atiku Abubakar, slamming the move as “Area Boy Diplomacy.”
In his post, Olarewaju questioned the wisdom of bypassing formal government-to-government channels, suggesting it reflects the current administration’s disorganized approach.
According to Demola Olarewaju on his official X handle:
“How can your Aviation Minister be tagging a foreign President on Twitter to explain what should be a coordinated govt-to-govt issue? What’s the wisdom behind this? I’m honestly trying to understand this Area Boy Diplomacy and anyhowness”. View, More,
