Political commentator Randy Peter has delivered a blistering critique of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s perceived political dominance, alleging that his power is propped up by “a corrupt and criminal electoral process,” not genuine popularity or democratic influence. His remarks came during a podcast conversation now trending online, and which media personality Dele Momodu has described as “absolutely brilliant and well spoken” on his verified Instagram page.

“Jay, should I be honest with you? The Tinubu political clout or capacity is exaggerated,” Peter began. “Yes, President Tinubu is not us. In fact, the confidence and arrogance of that political class and dynasty is a corrupt and criminal electoral process,” he added.

Peter claimed Tinubu did not vote in Ikoyi where he resides but registered in Alausa, Ikeja—a constituency Peter Obi reportedly won. “Peter Obi won Ikeja and Eti-Osa… he won Lagos. President Tinubu is the first person who won presidency by losing all the major states. He lost Kano, lost Abuja, lost his home state of Lagos,” he said.

The activist criticized electoral violence in Lagos, referencing voter intimidation: “People were flogged out of polling units… take away the touts and criminality, let us test popularity.”

Addressing the growing relevance of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Peter said, “If they were not that serious, the ruling party would not be as jittery as they are.”

However, he argued that the true opposition lies beyond party politics: “The real opposition in 2027 is more than 200 million Nigerians who are victims of reckless and irresponsible leadership… If Obi does not become president, what does he have to lose? If Atiku does not become president, he’s already one of the wealthiest Nigerians. The real victims are you and I.”

Peter decried the collapse of public services, saying, “The only sectors doing well in Nigeria today are crime and criminality… We must rescue ourselves.”

He also criticized state spending, including on the late President Buhari’s funeral: “We spent money maintaining the life of a president when he was alive. Even in death, taxpayer money will be used to repatriate the body.”

Peter concluded with a warning: “There is no worst-case scenario in Nigeria. If you wait for 2027 and they rig themselves back into power, it will only get worse.”
