According to a report by Iranian News Agency IRNA on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, Venezuela’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yván Gil, has accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of deliberately undermining international peace efforts aimed at ending the war in Gaza, describing him as a “war criminal” responsible for mass atrocities against Palestinians.

In a statement posted on his official Telegram page on Sunday, Oct. 5, and cited by the Spain-based EFE news agency, Gil condemned what he called Israel’s continued defiance of global calls for a ceasefire and its systematic attacks on civilians. He said Netanyahu “remains determined to sabotage peace efforts supported by Arab and Muslim nations, and to which Hamas has responded positively.”

Gil asserted that Netanyahu’s actions expose Israel’s disregard for humanitarian principles and international law. “Benjamin Netanyahu, a war criminal and serial killer, continues to obstruct any meaningful progress toward peace,” he wrote. The Venezuelan diplomat called for renewed efforts to protect the rights of Palestinians, ensure justice for victims of Israeli aggression, and pave the way for their “safe and dignified return” to their homeland through a comprehensive peace process.

His remarks came amid a new wave of Israeli airstrikes across Gaza that have killed dozens of Palestinians since Saturday, despite repeated appeals from world leaders to halt the violence.

On Friday, Hamas had responded to U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire proposal, agreeing to several key terms, including the phased release of Israeli captives, but requesting further negotiations on certain conditions. Trump’s plan, announced late last month, outlines a framework for a permanent ceasefire, prisoner exchanges, and the disarmament of militant factions in Gaza.

Venezuela, a long-time supporter of the Palestinian cause, has consistently denounced Israel’s military operations in Gaza as acts of genocide. President Nicolás Maduro’s administration has also advocated for stronger international action to hold Israeli leaders accountable before the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Gil reiterated that his country stands “firmly on the side of justice, peace, and the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.” He called on the United Nations, the Arab League, and the broader international community to intensify pressure on Israel to cease hostilities and return to the negotiating table.

Since October 2023, Israel’s relentless bombardment of Gaza has killed over 67,000 Palestinians most of them women and children according to Gaza’s health authorities. The destruction has left much of the enclave in ruins, with millions displaced and the humanitarian situation worsening by the day. See, More, Here>>>
