American TV host and political commentator Pete Hegseth has backed U.S. President Donald Trump’s strong warning to Nigeria over the killing of Christians, declaring that the United States will not remain idle while innocent believers are being massacred.
Reacting on his verified Twitter account, Hegseth retweeted President Trump’s post and added a stern message of his own, saying the U.S. Department of War is preparing to take action if Nigeria fails to protect its Christian citizens.
He wrote: “Yes sir. The killing of innocent Christians in Nigeria — and anywhere — must end immediately. The Department of War is preparing for action. Either the Nigerian Government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.”
Hegseth’s statement comes shortly after President Trump officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over what he described as “mass slaughter” of Christians by extremist groups.
The comment has sparked intense debate across diplomatic and media circles. While many Christian advocacy groups hailed the U.S. government’s renewed attention to the issue, others cautioned that such military threats could strain U.S.–Nigeria relations and destabilize regional security.
International observers have urged Washington and Abuja to pursue diplomatic dialogue and intelligence cooperation to combat terrorism rather than unilateral intervention.
Hegseth, a U.S. Army veteran and one of President Trump’s most vocal supporters, has consistently called for stronger global action against persecution of Christians. View, More,
