According to DAILY POST,an Islamic cleric named Kabiru Ibrahim has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing his client, Lukman Adeleke, in Osun State.
The judgment was delivered by the Osun State High Court sitting in Iwo. The court found Ibrahim guilty of conspiracy, murder, and theft, based on Sections 324, 319(1), and 390 of the Osun State Criminal Code.
According to the judge, Justice Lateef Adegoke, the prosecution presented enough evidence to prove that Ibrahim was responsible for the crimes.
As a result, he was sentenced to death by hanging for murder and given a seven-year prison sentence for theft.
The Ministry of Justice’s Information Officer, Opeyemi Bello, released a statement explaining what happened during the trial. The prosecution, led by Abiodun Badiora, told the court that Ibrahim had worked as a spiritual adviser for Lukman Adeleke.
Badiora recounted that Adeleke had planned to buy a plot of land and told the cleric about it. Ibrahim then told him to bring the money meant for the land so he could perform overnight prayers before Adeleke made the purchase.
However, after that meeting, Adeleke disappeared. His family grew worried when they could not reach him and organized a search.
During the investigation, they found out that the last person Adeleke was seen with was the cleric, Kabiru Ibrahim.
This led to a police investigation and Ibrahim was later arrested and charged. After reviewing all the evidence, the court concluded that the cleric killed Adeleke and stole his money under the pretense of offering spiritual help.
With the case proven beyond reasonable doubt, Justice Adegoke sentenced him accordingly, bringing closure to the grieving family.
