Nigerian lawyer and human rights activist, Prof. Chidi Odinkalu, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following a viral video showing the minister in a heated exchange with soldiers over access to a disputed parcel of land in Abuja.

Reacting to the incident on his X handle, Odinkalu appeared to criticize Wike’s conduct, describing it as unbecoming of a senior public official.

In a strongly worded post, he wrote: “When a #LifeBencher relies too much on alcohol, you can end up with one of those ones they call #HorribleMinister…. I hope the #CInC is very happy with his favorite Minister.”

His remarks came after Wike and officials of the Federal Capital Territory Authority (FCTA) clashed with military personnel who reportedly prevented them from entering a piece of land in the Gaduwa area of Abuja.

In the viral clip, Wike was seen confronting the soldiers, demanding that they stop blocking the FCTA team.

The minister, visibly angry, accused the officers of acting without proper authorization and questioned the legitimacy of their presence at the site.

The confrontation, which attracted widespread reactions online, reportedly ended after senior military officials intervened to calm the situation.

Wike’s remarks during the exchange, including his sharp rebuke of one of the soldiers, fueled debate among Nigerians about the conduct of public officials and the relationship between civil authorities and the military. View, More,
