Chief Femi Okurounmu, who happens to be a chieftain of Afenifere, a former Commissioner for Works in Ogun State. He served in the Senate of the Federal Republic between 1999 -2003, and represented the Ogun State Central Constituency. During an interview with The Nigerian Tribune, he spoke on Nigeria’s political situation, among others.

When he was told that recently, the Afenifere called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to save the country from sinking, reacting to this, Chief Femi Okurounmi said that it is a serious problem, and Nigeria is experiencing bad governance because it has bad people in government. When bad people are in charge, good governance isn’t possible. This issue isn’t new; it started a long time ago and has been getting worse with each government.

He said, “Certificate forgers, plenty of them are in government. People who have committed crimes or different types of frauds are in governments, plenty of them.

People who have stolen money from previous political offices, like former governors, and so on, who have been indicted even by our own EFCC [Economic and Financial Crimes Commission], whose indictments are there, but their cases were not prosecuted because of their influence, weight or connections, they are there.”

He claimed in this administration, there is no effort to promote honesty. Dishonesty is what is being encouraged. Honest people have no chance to serve in a government like this. Chief Femi claims when a government favours corrupt individuals, good governance is impossible….VïêwMôrê
