Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and legal practitioner has taken to his official X handle to react after the Confederation of African Football, CAF stripped the AFCON trophy from the Senegalese national team and awarded it to Morocco. According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that the future of the tournament was in trouble.
The news regarding the decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to award the 2025 AFCON trophy to Morocco over Senegal generated mixed reactions after the reports surfaced online.
The Senegalese national team, according to CAF, were found guilty of misconduct, hence, were unworthy of the trophy. They further declared the Moroccan national team, which initially came second, the winner.
Chidi Odinkalu, a respected human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission in a recent statement which was shared on his official X handle, lamented over CAF’s decision to strip the trophy off the Senegalese national team.
