PDP chieftain and former presidential aspirant Gbenga Olawepo Hashim has alleged that President Bola Tinubu was living abroad and far removed from the dangerous frontlines of Nigeria’s pro-democracy struggle during the years when activists were risking their lives to force the military out of power.

Speaking in an interview from 14:23 with Channels TV, Olawepo Hashim said, “When we fought the military, President Tinubu was one of those drinking Cognac abroad. He was not here. On the day Abacha died, I was in the struggle against IBB with some people who were members of the G34 and the civil society group. I was in Fort IBB when the military were moving tanks; we were civilians negotiating a new republic. Alhaji Rimi, who was one of the founders of the PDP, was imprisoned. Chief Solomon Lar took the letter of the G34 to Abacha asking him not to succeed himself, he took it by hand, not by courier. He took it into the lion’s den,” he said.

Olawepo Hashim pushed back against any attempt to dismiss or belittle the opposition, insisting that holding power to account was a patriotic duty he had consciously embraced.

He said he remained a committed PDP member and warned that the consequences of allowing Nigeria to slide into a one-party or totalitarian state would be catastrophic for everyone, including those in power. Read_More…
