According to a report by Vanguard Newspapers on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the father of the late Bilyaminu Bello, Alhaji Ahmed Bello Isa, has expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for granting a presidential pardon to his daughter-in-law, Maryam Sanda, who had been convicted for the death of his son.

His reaction came during a joint interview in Abuja alongside Maryam’s father, Alhaji Garba Sanda, where he spoke about his reasons for supporting the decision.

Alhaji Bello explained that his call for mercy was not influenced by pressure or sentiment but by deep humanitarian consideration.

He stated that ever since Maryam’s conviction, he had been making quiet efforts to plead for leniency, emphasizing that the loss of his son was already a permanent scar that no punishment could erase.

According to him, showing compassion was a way to promote healing and reduce the emotional suffering of both families involved.

He further noted that while justice must always be respected, forgiveness remains an essential part of life and faith.

He pointed out that insisting on her execution would have only deepened the pain on both sides, especially for the young children left behind.

His decision, he said, was guided by the belief that true peace could only come through reconciliation and understanding, not through retaliation or prolonged bitterness.

He said, “Vengeance cannot bring back my son, but forgiveness can bring peace to my family, to her family, and to the children who must not suffer any longer.”

Addressing those who criticized his decision, Alhaji Bello maintained that people were entitled to their opinions, but he stood by his conviction that forgiveness was the right path.

He expressed that carrying hatred or anger would not restore his son’s life and that both families had endured enough emotional turmoil over the years.

Alhaji Bello concluded by saying that the pardon should serve as a reminder of the power of mercy and the importance of compassion in times of tragedy.

He hoped that the development would bring closure to the painful chapter that has lingered for years and allow the families, especially the children, to move forward in peace. See, More, Here>>>
