Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has criticized politicians who, during the governorship election, fabricated and announced false results on social media, accusing them of now lamenting that the election was rigged, as reported by Daily Post.
Speaking on Saturday at the Esan Central Local Government Council Secretariat during a homecoming reception organized by the Esan people to celebrate his victory, Okpebholo expressed gratitude to the electorate for voting him into office.
He commended his party’s leadership and President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for their commitment to justice and equity, which, according to him, ensured his victory.
“The people who fabricated results and announced them on the internet are the same ones crying foul today, claiming the election was rigged,” Okpebholo said. “It’s unfortunate that these individuals, who relied on dishonest tactics, are now lamenting their losses. They are wasting resources and will continue to wait in vain.”
The Onojie of Uromi, His Royal Highness Anselm Aidenojie II, also spoke at the event, celebrating the emergence of an Esan son as governor. He noted that traditional rulers from Esanland had actively sought support across the state for Okpebholo’s candidacy.
“We, the monarchs of Esanland, are proud that our collective efforts bore fruit,” the royal father said. “We extend our gratitude to the Oba of Benin, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo Oba Ewuare II, and everyone who supported this cause. We trust that Governor Okpebholo will deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Edo State.”
