The National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Alhaji Shehu Gabam, has dismissed claims that northerners are conspiring against President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 election.
During an interview with TVC News from 23:58, he pointed out that about 62% of the votes that brought Tinubu to power in the 2023 presidential election, came from northerners.
Shehu Gabam emphasized that northerners supported Bola Tinubu because they saw him as someone who genuinely meant well for the country.
“They say the northerners are ganging up against Tinubu, 62% of votes were from the north. Did Bola ask them to vote him. The northerners came together and voted for him because they have good intentions. They see him as somebody who mean well for the country,” he said.
Gabam further criticized the individuals promoting divisive narratives, accusing them of exploiting the situation for personal gain and further dividing the nation.
He urged President Tinubu to focus on uniting Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines, advocating for the creation of a lasting legacy of national cohesion and a new, inclusive order.
“Who is changing the narratives now? Who is the narrative going to suit? You see how the nation is being balkanized by few individuals who have vested interest, to keep on balkanizing the country for them to benefit from it, and this is not good for the country.
“What i expected Bola Tinubu to do, is to build a new wall of collection of Nigerians irrespective of tribe or religion, so that he can leave a legacy that he has built a new order,” he added.
