The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh has challenged human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore, to come to Lagos as he earlier promised, accusing him of backing down from his planned protest over the demolition in Oworonshoki.

Speaking during an interview on SYMFONI TV from 7:37, Jimoh wondered why Sowore, who recently led a protest in Abuja, had suddenly gone into hiding instead of coming to Lagos to stage the demonstration he announced.

“Let him come down. He came down in Abuja, why is he afraid to come down in Lagos? He should come down,” Jimoh said.

The police commissioner said the Lagos State Police Command is aware of Sowore’s statements and preparations for the protest but noted that the activist has failed to appear as planned. Jimoh added that Sowore’s avoidance suggests fear of facing the consequences of attempting to disrupt public order in the state.

According to the police chief, while peaceful protests are allowed under the law, any gathering that threatens public safety or obstructs free movement would not be tolerated. He maintained that the police were fully prepared to prevent any breakdown of law and order.

Sowore, a former presidential candidate and publisher of Sahara Reporters, had reportedly vowed to stage a protest in Lagos over the recent demolition of structures in Oworonshoki, which displaced several residents. View, More,
