In a recent report by Punch, the Rivers State Commissioner for Environment, Sydney Gbara, has responded to recent statements made by former Governor Nyesom Wike, which were directed at PDP governors who support the current Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara.
Wike had warned that he would “put fire” in the states of PDP governors supporting Fubara if they don’t stop interfering in Rivers State issues. He said “But let me tell people, I hear some governors, who say they will take over the structure and give back to somebody. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states”
However, reacting to Wike’s statement Gbara expressed disappointment, saying that as a seasoned politician and elder statesman, Wike’s comments were unexpected and concerning. He said that threatening to cause unrest in multiple states could lead to significant security challenges across the entire country.
In Gbara’s words: “Well I feel that as an elder statesman, nobody will expect that he will make such utterances. So threatening that you are going to cause crisis in 13 states out of the 36 states in Nigeria means planning to cause crisis in the entire country. That is what it means, security-wise”….Vïêw–Môrê
