Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has strongly condemned former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent statement alleging that Christians are being killed in Nigeria and suggesting possible U.S. military action to protect them.

In a passionate post on his verified Twitter account, Sani declared that he wanted history to remember him as one of those who “outrightly opposed, rejected and unreservedly condemned any act of Mr. Trump’s foreign military aggression against my country under any guise, disguise or excuse.”

The outspoken human rights activist and former lawmaker stressed that Nigeria is not and will never be a “disgraced country,” rejecting Trump’s labeling of the nation as such. “Anyone who is proud of his mother who gave birth to him after months of labour in his ancestral land will not accept his land being called ‘disgraced,’” Sani wrote.

He reminded the international community that Nigeria has never colonized, enslaved, or invaded any country, nor has it dropped bombs or looted other nations’ resources. According to him, this moral record disqualifies any attempt to brand Nigeria as a failed or dishonorable state.

He called on the Nigerian government to redouble its efforts in protecting citizens’ lives and strengthening national security. “This is the only country we can live in without a visa or request for a visa,” he stated, underscoring the importance of national pride and unity.
