Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has spoken about the events leading up to his emergence as governor of Ondo State after the death of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

In an interview with Channels TV from 16:27, Aiyedatiwa said that during Akeredolu’s illness, his wife, Betty, stated in an audio recording that if anything happened to her husband, the constitution clearly provided that he (Lucky Aiyedatiwa) would succeed him as governor

Aiyedatiwa also said that during Akeredolu’s health challenges, some individuals with political interests attempted to impeach him. He said their motivation was to prevent him from succeeding Akeredolu as governor in the event of Akeredolu’s death

In Aiyedatiwa’s exact words: “Even Betty, the wife of the late governor, also mentioned it on one of her own audio tape that if anything happened to Aketi, as we fondly call him, that it is constitutional matter that Lucky will become the governor”
