According to the report from the Vanguard, a compelling voice on issues affecting the Niger-Delta region and Nigeria, Ms. Ann-Kio Briggs expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs in Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, noting that various aspects of daily life, including fuel prices, education, healthcare, and food costs, have significantly worsened.
Reflecting on the rising cost of living and growing economic struggles, Briggs stated her intention to purchase rice in advance of potential price increases and highlighted the unaffordability of other staples such as beef, chicken, and fish, which are either expensive or negatively impacted by pollution.
Briggs argued that living conditions have significantly deteriorated since President Tinubu assumed office, and speculated that the President himself may come to regret having pursued the position, given the severity of the challenges faced by the country.
She questioned the notion that Tinubu’s presidency was simply a matter of it being “his turn” and asserted that, based on factors like bad governance, corruption, and insecurity, many Nigerians view his administration as the worst since the country’s amalgamation and independence.
According to Ann-Kio Briggs, “They said we are in band A. I know how much I spend on petrol in a day. Everything has gone worse. Is it education, medical or what, everything has gone worse. I am thinking of buying a bag of rice to keep for Christmas because the price will go up. You can’t afford beef again, you can’t afford chicken and our fishes are polluted. Things have gone from bad to worse even for them. Things have really gone bad since the President took over.
I am sure that in the night when he (Tinubu) wakes up, he will regret that he asked for this job. He said it was his turn, but the question is it is in your turn that Nigerians can say that since the amalgamation and independence, Nigerians who are alive can say that so far this is the worst government in terms of bad governance, corruption, insecurity among others?”
