In a video aired on ESET TV from 3:39, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, reacted sharply to remarks made by Navy officer A.M. Yerima, asserting that he has always been a firm ally of the Nigerian military throughout his career in public service.

According to Wike, “Even as a governor, no governor has supported the military more than I have.” He said his tenure as the governor of Rivers State was marked by strong cooperation with the armed forces, adding that his administration consistently provided operational and logistical assistance to security agencies combating crime and militancy in the Niger Delta.

The FCT Minister noted that it was unfair for anyone to suggest that he was in conflict with the military because of recent events involving a land dispute in Abuja. He explained that the issue was not between the government and the military but with a private individual who acted outside the law. “If it were the military as an institution, I would have treated it differently,” he said. “But when a civilian disobeys government directives, the law must take its course.”

Wike further stated that his respect for the armed forces remains intact, describing the institution as a vital pillar of national stability. He said that while in Rivers State, he supported the establishment of military facilities and contributed to the welfare of officers and men across different commands.

He concluded by warning against attempts to politicize the issue, insisting that defending the rule of law does not mean hostility toward the military but rather commitment to institutional integrity and national discipline. View, More,
