The former governor of Anambra State and erstwhile Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi has taken to his official X handle to commend the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC for recovering over eight hundred billion from criminal activities. According to his statements which drew widespread attention from the general public, he pointed out that the recovered funds must be used to make impact.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), an anti-graft agency tasked with crackdown and recovery of stolen funds across the country recently caught center stage after they announced the recovery of over eight hundred billion naira within one year.

The announcement quickly garnered widespread traction across various social media platforms, drawing mixed reactions from notable national figures, including the former governor of Anambra State and 2023 Presidential candidate of LP, Peter Obi.

According to the statements which were shared on his official X handle, he pointed out that while the agency deserved commendations for a work well done, the recovered funds must be used to make impacts.

However, he pointed out that the recovered funds standing at approximately N853 billion was just a tiny fraction of the funds looted from the public treasury by unscrupulous politicians.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announcement that N853 billion has been recovered from crime proceeds within one year is a step in the right direction. The commission deserve our commendation for this effort, even though we are aware it’s just a tiny fraction of the funds looted from the public treasury by the leaders….” He wrote.
