Martins Amaewhule, the speaker of the Rivers State house of assembly recently reacted after he defected to the All Progressive Congress. According to his statements which were shared by ChannelsTv on their official X handle, he pointed out that his intention was to join forces with president Tinubu.
The news regarding the defection of the Speaker of the Rivers State house of assembly, Martins Amaewhule and other sixteen lawmakers on Friday December 5th 2025, generated mixed reactions after the reports went viral across various social media platforms.
The defection, which came amid the crisis bedeviling the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) however, came as a surprise to many given that the governor, Siminalayi Fubara was still a staunch PDP member
The speaker, while speaking with ChannelsTv in a highly monitored interview on Friday, disclosed the reasons why he decided to dump the People’s Democratic Party for the ruling All Progressive Congress.
According to his statements which were made available to the general public by ChannelsTv on their official X handle, the Speaker pointed out that his intention was to join forces with president Tinubu.
He further pointed out that the president was doing so much for the country, hence, his decision to align with him.
“APC is my new party. I will do all that is needed to be done towards ensuring that the party card of the All Progressives Congress is issued to me in no time.
