Opunabo Inko Tariah, a former adviser to ex-Governor Nyesom Wike, has stated that the 27 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Tariah said that these lawmakers joined the APC and invited the media to publicize the event. He also said that Tony Okocha who was Rivers APC caretaker committee chairman welcomed the lawmakers into the party.

In a video shared by Arise TV from 5:23, Tariah alleged that while speaking about the 27 lawmakers defection to APC, President Tinubu said “he won’t reject babies born into his political family“. Additionally, Tariah mentioned that the 27 lawmakers affirmed their APC membership in court through sworn affidavits.

In Tariah’s words: “President Tinubu himself said that if new babies are born into his family, will he reject them? referring to the defectors. Again, they went to court and deposed to an affidavit as APC members. So it is now left for the 27 former assembly members to agree whether they should be tried for perjury or they should go with the consequences of defection”
