Former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Rev. Samson Ayokunle, has alleged that helicopters were seen dropping ammunition in the bush for Boko Haram terrorists in Niger State, but the Nigerian government failed to investigate the claims.

Speaking on Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political program on Channels Television, Ayokunle expressed disappointment over what he described as negligence on the part of authorities, which allowed insurgents to thrive.

The cleric stressed that for years, CAN had warned about the influence of foreign sponsors in the insurgency but was ignored. He lamented that the Nigerian government and its security agencies failed to act on early warnings, allowing terrorists to gain strength.

“We gave them room to operate. We took them for granted in their grand plan. We are suspecting, what is happening, especially when we alleged that our people in Niger State said they saw helicopters dropping ammunition in the bush, but nobody investigated, nor did the government take us seriously,” he stated.

Ayokunle suggested that external forces were behind the continued survival of Boko Haram, citing recent allegations made by U.S. Congressman Scott Perry that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) was involved in funding terrorist organizations, including Boko Haram.

“And now, see how it is turning out. USAID is now being alleged to be behind the sponsorship of Boko Haram in Nigeria. They have been having enough millions of dollars to operate with, and because of the kind of international backing they have, ammunitions were getting to them easily,” he added.
