Public Affairs Analyst Jude Ojo has pointed out that Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto recently refuted allegations of an ongoing Christian genocide in Nigeria.
Speaking on Trust TV from 5:07, Ojo noted that Bishop Kukah’s statement earlier in the month contradicted international claims, particularly from groups advocating for Nigeria’s designation as a “Country of Particular Concern.”
Ojo said Kukah’s position was significant because it came from a highly respected religious leader who has long engaged with national security issues and understands the realities of violence in northern Nigeria. The Bishop, he explained, sought to dispel the false impression that Nigeria’s insecurity is directed solely at Christians.
According to Ojo, Kukah clarified that the violence in Nigeria impacts people of all religions, and describing it as genocide against Christians distorts the truth.
He stressed that such balanced perspectives are crucial for fostering national unity and understanding. Ojo concluded that exaggerated claims of religious persecution only worsen divisions and hinder effective solutions to the nation’s insecurity. View, More,
