According to a report by The Times Of Israel, US President Donald Trump claims he personally intervened to halt Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza, telling Time magazine that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would have continued the conflict for years if not for his involvement.
In an interview published today, which was conducted on October 15 — just days after a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas came into effect — Trump recounted urging Netanyahu to bring the fighting to an end. According to the president, he made it clear that Israel could not sustain an open-ended war.
“I said to Bibi, ‘Bibi, you can’t fight the world. You can fight individual battles, but the world’s against you. And Israel is a very small place compared to the world,’” Trump told the magazine.
The president went on to explain that his intervention was decisive in stopping the conflict. “You know, I stopped him, because he would have just kept going. It could have gone on for years. It would have gone on for years. And I stopped him, and everybody came together when I stopped, it was amazing,” he said.
Trump also addressed Israel’s reported attempt to target senior Hamas officials in Qatar, calling the move a serious misstep. He described the planned strike as “a mistake” and “terrible,” though he added that the event unexpectedly contributed to progress toward a peace agreement.
While Trump did not specify the details of his conversations with Netanyahu or how exactly the United States exerted pressure to end the war, his comments underscore Washington’s central role in brokering the Gaza ceasefire.
