Youths in Benue State have taken to the streets to protest the ongoing killings, kidnappings and destruction of property by suspected herdsmen in the state.
The demonstration, which took place in Otukpo saw protesters blocking major roads and chanting “Enough is enough.”
In a video shared by News Central TV, a protester passionately voiced the frustrations of the community stating, “Enough is enough, we will go on a peaceful protest. No man born of a woman can stop us because enough is enough. Look at the way every night people will be chased from their home, people will be killed, people will be kidnapped.
Today we are expecting another killing, today we are expecting another kidnapping, today we are expecting people’s properties to be destroyed.”
The protesters expressed their deep concerns over the worsening security situation in the state, particularly in Otukpo, where attacks have become frequent. They called on the state government led by Governor Hyacinth Alia, to take urgent action and ensure the safety of residents.
“We use this medium to call again on the executive governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia. Anybody telling you Otukpo is safe is a lie,” one of the protesters declared.
The demonstration highlights the increasing anger and fear among Benue residents, who have suffered repeated attacks by armed assailants suspected to be herdsmen. Many communities have been displaced and livelihoods have been destroyed as violence continues unchecked.
