A Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the government’s handling of security issues is being used as a political cover by President Bola Tinubu, particularly in relation to his exclusion from ministerial appointments. He questioned the credibility of repeated announcements of terrorist killings while key figures such as Bello Turji and Dogo Gide remain active.
He stated that the narrative of progress in the fight against insecurity is being pushed as part of an “exit strategy” for Tinubu, following the president’s decision to withdraw his nomination for ministerial office. He maintained that the continued freedom of the most notorious terrorist leaders undermines official claims of success.
He said in an interview with Channels TV from 35:13, “Bello Turji is not a security threat. Dogo Gide is not a security threat. Every day they announce they have killed one, but the most important terrorists are still roaming the streets. The security story is all an exit strategy for Bola Tinubu because he has changed his mind about wanting me to be minister. I don’t know what his reasons are, but he changed his mind.”
