Senator Orji Uzor Kalu spoke about his connection to Nnamdi Kanu in a recent interview on Arise TV from 48:34. He revealed that he appointed Kanu’s father as the Eze, or traditional ruler, of their community, highlighting their long-standing relationship. Before Kalu became governor, Kanu’s father was a customer who purchased tobacco from him.
Kalu acknowledged his closeness to the Kanu family but emphasized that relationships must be approached cautiously. He expressed his ongoing efforts to advocate for Kanu, noting that he had pleaded with President Buhari and other security officials, as well as urging families to allow the judicial process to unfold.
Kalu said, “I made Nnamdi kanu’s father the Eze of their place; the father used to buy tobacco from me before I became governor. He was my customer, and I am very close to the family, but I cannot take anything for granted. Let us continue; I pleaded with President Buhari, I pleaded with the security chiefs, and I begged the families to allow the judge to do her job.”
