The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has spoken again about the growing crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Speaking during his monthly media parley, Wike warned that the party will continue to face problems if its leaders do not change the way they handle important decisions.
In a video shared by Channels Television from 1:23, Wike reminded Nigerians that he had previously warned the PDP about setting “booby traps” for themselves. According to him, the wrong choices being made by some leaders could eventually destroy the party. He also accused some current governors of running the party in a way that would “bury” it if nothing changes.
The former Rivers State governor expressed anger that some PDP stakeholders hold private meetings without inviting him simply because he is no longer a governor. Wike argued that his long years of service and major contributions to the party should give him a voice in important discussions. He stressed that being the FCT Minister does not mean he should suddenly be ignored.
“I’m FCT Minister for Christ’s sake. Forget about what you think, are you telling me as it is today, because I’m not a governor, you will go and hold PDP meetings, you call them stakeholders and then you exclude me, and then you want to survive,” he said.
Wike said that even if he was holding no office at the moment, he still deserved to be consulted when decisions affecting the party are made. He questioned how the party expects to survive when it keeps sidelining those who helped build it.
He also dismissed claims that the ruling APC is responsible for PDP’s troubles. According to Wike, PDP’s biggest problems are caused by poor leadership and the refusal to do the right thing.
