Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has weighed in on a resurfaced video of Peter Obi, former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate, pledging lifelong allegiance to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The video, originally recorded in 2010 and recently shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, shows Obi declaring: “I swear to you, I will never leave APGA. I will die in AGPA.”
The clip has gone viral, drawing sharp reactions from political observers and the public, especially in light of Obi’s subsequent moves across several political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Labour Party (LP), and more recently, his growing association with the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Reacting to the video on Monday, August 4, 2025, Onanuga criticized Obi’s political consistency, saying the former governor’s words rarely align with his actions.
“Peter Obi has proven over time that he is not dependable. Often, his actions do not align with his words or promises,” Onanuga wrote in a post on X.
The remark adds fuel to ongoing debates over Obi’s political credibility as the 2027 general election approaches. Critics argue that his frequent party changes raise questions about his ideological stance and long-term vision, while his supporters view his decisions as strategic moves driven by Nigeria’s fluid political terrain.
Omokri, who shared the video initially, has also been vocal in questioning Obi’s commitment to principles, noting that many Nigerians trusted his 2023 campaign based on perceived integrity and consistency.
As Obi continues to gain attention ahead of 2027, the resurfaced video has rekindled scrutiny of his political journey and whether his actions will match the ideals he promotes.
