According to a report by Punch on Sunday, November 23, 2025, Muhammad Dantani, the District Head of Maga in Danko/Wasagu LGA, told ANIMASAHUN SALMAN how the attack on Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School unfolded — a daring assault in which bandits killed a staff member and took away 25 students.
According to him, the most troubling part of the incident is the unanswered question of why the soldiers left their post shortly before the invasion. He explained that around midnight, he made a call to confirm if the troops were still stationed at the school, and he was assured they were present. However, without the knowledge of community leaders, the soldiers reportedly departed around 1 a.m., only moments before the bandits launched their operation. Dantani said no one has been able to clarify who instructed the withdrawal or the reason behind it.
When the attackers arrived in large numbers, the police officers on duty said they had no choice but to take cover. They explained that the bandits were heavily armed and far too many for them to confront. Engaging them, they believed, would have amounted to certain death due to the superior firepower the criminals brought with them.
With the military already gone, the police said attempting to fight back would have been suicidal. While the community understands their fear for their own lives, the absence of any form of resistance meant the bandits were able to move freely within the school premises.
