According to an interview with The Sun on Saturday, September 27, 2025, The President of the Middle Belt Forum (MBF), Dr. Bitrus Pogu, has raised fresh concerns over the worsening insecurity in the country, alleging that military operations against bandits are being deliberately restrained.
Pogu said the handling of armed criminals reflects a disturbing pattern where soldiers are instructed not to engage or eliminate them, even when they are within reach. He argued that such directives undermine the fight against insurgency and embolden non-state actors who continue to terrorize innocent Nigerians.
“Sometimes these criminals are surrounded by the military, and yet the soldiers would be instructed not to kill them. We have heard this several times, not once, not twice, to the extent that soldiers do get frustrated and withdraw from the military; from the army,” he revealed.
The MBF president maintained that this approach has left many communities vulnerable, while also demoralizing security personnel on the frontline. According to him, the continued existence of these criminals despite repeated opportunities for decisive action shows that the government is not treating insecurity with the urgency it deserves.
Pogu insisted that unless authorities empower the military to act without hesitation, Nigeria’s security crisis will remain unresolved. See, More, Here>>>
