Bandits in Zamfara State reportedly killed a newly wedded groom, identified as Muhammad Sani Maru, and abducted his wife along with six other guests during an attack in Maru, the headquarters of Maru Local Government Area.
According to The Sun, the incident was confirmed by a resident of Maru, Malam Usman, who shared an eyewitness account of the attack with journalists in Gusau.
Usman explained that the bandits invaded Maru town on Sunday night and stormed the home of the newly wedded couple, intending to abduct them. He said the attackers tried to force the groom into the forest, but he resisted, leading one of the bandits to shoot him in the head, killing him instantly.
Further talking, he said, “I was listening when they asked him to ride on one of the motorcycles but he insisted that he wouldn’t go to the forest.
“When the bandits realized that he was really not ready to follow them, one of them shot him, killing him instantly.”
Usman said the attackers kidnapped the groom’s newly wedded bride along with seven other people, including four men and three women.
Maru town, he added, is one of the local government areas in Zamfara State worst affected by bandit attacks. In previous incidents, the Divisional Police Officer, Kazeem Raheem, two other police officers, and the town’s Chief Imam, Salisu Sulaiman, were killed by bandits.
He also recalled that many residents of the town had been killed or abducted in similar attacks, with millions of naira reportedly paid as ransom by the community to secure the release of victims. See, More, Here>>>
