According to a recent video from 1:18 shared by TV Platinum, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and counsel to the Federal Government, Adegboyega Awomolo, has reacted to the judgment that sentenced IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu to life imprisonment.
Addressing journalists shortly after the ruling, Awomolo described the court’s decision as a critical affirmation of the rule of law and a necessary step toward restoring peace and stability in the South-East region.
He commended the judiciary for its firmness despite intense public scrutiny surrounding the trial. Awomolo argued that the long-running case had contributed significantly to rising insecurity in parts of the country, insisting that the court’s pronouncement would help bring closure to citizens affected by violence linked to the agitation.
In his words, “Today, God has brought an end to injustice and oppression suffered by our brothers and sisters in the eastern states.” He maintained that the ruling reflects the judiciary’s commitment to justice regardless of public pressure or political sentiment.
Awomolo further stressed that national security must be seen as a collective responsibility. He urged Nigerians to rise above fear, misinformation, and ethnic bias, noting that silence in the face of criminality only emboldens violent actors.
The senior advocate concluded by urging citizens to respect judicial processes and avoid actions that might heighten tension, expressing hope that the verdict would open a new pathway toward peace, order, and reconciliation across the country. View, More,
