According to the report from the Daily Post, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Katchi Ononuju discussed how destiny can present opportunities that must be seized at the right moment.
He argued that Atiku Abubakar had missed such an opportunity in the past when he could have become Nigeria’s president, as no other Northern candidate was more favorable.
Ononuju criticized Atiku’s tactics during the recent presidential campaign, which included allegedly paying people to spread divisive messages and causing some individuals to deny their Igbo heritage to gain favor.
Ononuju shared that he and others had advised Atiku against such actions, suggesting they were not an appropriate approach to gain support.
Through this statement, Ononuju emphasized the importance of recognizing and capitalizing on political opportunities while maintaining ethical conduct and inclusivity in the pursuit of power.
According to Katchi Ononuju, “There are times in life when destiny presents itself, and if you are not ready, it passes you by. It came for him then; no one in the North could have gotten it before him. But no, and this last time, he didn’t support anybody. He (Atiku) went all in, paying people in the mosque to pull down those from the East, and even got some people from the region to deny their heritage, saying ‘I’m not Igbo,’ so that they could be considered. Some of us told him that wasn’t the way to go.”
