Former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has rejected claims that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition serves as a launch pad for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential ambitions.

Speaking during an interview with Channels TV from 6:50, Tambuwal acknowledged public speculation while emphasizing the coalition’s broader democratic purpose beyond any individual candidate. “You cannot stop people from having their own insinuations, their own thinking. Even Atiku himself has said it’s not about him; it’s about this country. Let’s go through a democratic process and see who emerges as the candidate,” Tambuwal stated.

The former governor drew comparison to previous political coalitions, specifically referencing the 2015 All Progressives Congress (APC) formation where multiple presidential hopefuls competed for the party’s ticket. “Atiku was involved in 2015 APC Coalition primary, did he become the candidate? No, he didn’t become the candidate. He lost to Buhari in Lagos; Kwankwaso lost as well. So, it’s more or less a similar thing,” he explained.

Tambuwal emphasized the coalition’s commitment to democratic competition rather than predetermined outcomes. “Let’s have a platform, and then whoever wants to express his ambition is entitled to express his ambition,” he declared.

Despite his close relationship with Atiku, including serving as his campaign director-general, Tambuwal insisted the coalition transcends personal political aspirations. “I can tell you, I’m very close to Atiku—I was his last DG of his campaign—that this coalition is not about him; it’s about this democracy and this country,” he declared.

The former governor argued that all leading opposition parties, including the PDP, Labour Party, and NNPP, have been infiltrated by government agents. He explained that this infiltration prompted his call for collaboration with the ADC to create a political party movement that would remain free from government influence from its inception.

The former governor expressed his conviction that their current efforts involve working within the democratic process to establish a new government in Nigeria that would serve the people’s interests. He cited this belief as his primary motivation for participating in these political activities.
