The National Alliance for Democratic Governance (NADG), through its President and National Coordinator, James Ezema, reportedly stated that the recent resignation of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other prominent members from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had validated its earlier warning that reinstating Senator Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary—despite opposition from the South East Caucus—would lead to the party’s downfall.
According to The Sun, reacting to Atiku’s resignation, NADG was said to have maintained that the PDP’s 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting had effectively sealed the party’s fate by allegedly handing over its structures to individuals collaborating with external forces to undermine the party.
Ezema reportedly said that nemesis had finally caught up with the PDP for its mistreatment of the South East, a region which, according to him, had sacrificed everything for the party and remained loyal for nearly three decades. He further alleged that denying the South East the 2023 presidential ticket—an action in which Atiku and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, were allegedly complicit—was a clear act of injustice against the region.
Further talking, he said, “But throwing an entire region under the bus by reinstating Anyanwu against party convention and practice, was not just a total humiliation and injustice taken too far against the South East, but an orchestrated and choreographed move to finally annihilate the party.
“The bottom line is that as predicted, the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun, has secured his place as the chief undertaker in the funeral of the party which was once the largest political party in Africa,” the group concluded.
