According to a report from Vanguard News on August 27, 2025, The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has rejected the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) zoning strategy for the 2027 presidential election, labeling it a calculated tactic to attract high-profile figures such as Peter Obi, Goodluck Jonathan, and Rotimi Amaechi.

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday, ADC National Publicity Secretary Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi criticized both the PDP and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for focusing on political strategies rather than addressing Nigeria’s urgent issues.

He argued that their premature zoning decisions, with the PDP allocating its presidential ticket to the South while keeping the national chairmanship in the North, and the APC endorsing President Bola Tinubu as its sole candidate, reflect insensitivity to ordinary Nigerians’ struggles, especially with the election still two years away.

Abdullahi questioned the political elite’s apparent disregard for public concerns, suggesting their actions risk alienating citizens. He described the zoning moves as strategic gamesmanship, noting that seasoned politicians in both parties understand the dangers of revealing plans too early, implying either deliberate scheming or efforts to entice specific individuals.

Unlike the PDP and APC, the ADC, Abdullahi emphasized, does not revolve around a single candidate. He clarified that figures like Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi have equal opportunities to secure the ADC’s ticket, highlighting the party’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive primary process to challenge the APC’s dominance in 2027.

In his statement, he said, “In the papers yesterday (Monday), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar came out to say he is going to run for presidency. Don’t forget we still have the likes of Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and others who are interested in running, and we have reiterated that they have an equal chance,” Abdullahi stated
