Former Organizing Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Ussiju Medaner, has acknowledged the political strength of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in consistently securing the presidential ticket of whichever party he belongs to at any given time.
However, in an interview with Arise News Television, he stated that Atiku Abubakar does not appear to have the allies needed to significantly boost his chances of winning a presidential election.
He recalled a similar scenario involving former President Muhammadu Buhari during his time in the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), when he repeatedly contested for the presidency. According to him, Buhari had massive grassroots support at the time but lacked the strategic team necessary to secure electoral victory.
“Atiku Abubakar knows how to get tickets but he doesn’t have those people who can win a general election. Most of the politicians are like this, I was in the CPC and I supported Buhari. We had all the followership but those we could have to win the election turned out to be the problem. So we need to have those who know how to win an election.”
Furthermore, Ussiju Medaner described the current opposition in the country as a mere noise-making group. He claimed that the opposition has engaged in fruitless activities that are unlikely to help them win the next presidential election against what he described as a more strategic force like the ruling APC.
His words: “Some of the opposition activities is just about making noise, they are not putting their acts together. Election is not just about making noise, election is about thinking in everywhere in the world.
