In an interview with TVC News From 1:48, former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Diran Odeyemi, criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for allegedly pursuing his personal ambition through the proposed opposition coalition without due regard for the party structure. Odeyemi made this known while speaking on the internal dynamics of the PDP and the recent push for a coalition against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Odeyemi, Atiku’s current political moves suggest an individual agenda that does not align with the collective interest or strategic direction of the PDP. He expressed concern that rather than consolidating the strength of the party, the coalition move risks weakening its foundation. “Atiku appears to be forgetting that the party is the ladder through which he can step up politically. Ignoring the party’s position could prove detrimental,” he explained, emphasizing that loyalty to the PDP must come first before external alliances.
He further stated that the PDP Governors’ Forum remains united and has not endorsed any coalition. “The Governors are united for now. We don’t see and we’re not anticipating anything that will break their ranks. They’re speaking with one voice and they have made it clear that as the leaders of the party, as Governors that emerged from the party, the PDP does not believe in coalition,” Odeyemi said. He stressed that while alliances may seem appealing, they must not be at the expense of the party’s structure or principles. According to him, PDP Governors are firmly focused on strengthening the party from within, not joining any loosely defined coalition driven by personal ambition.
In his words;
“Atiku is pursuing his personal ambition through the Coalition, forgetting that you’ll need the party as a ladder through which you can step up. The Governors are United for now, We don’t see and we’re not anticipating anything that will break their ranks. They’re speaking with one voice and they have made it clear that as the leader of the party, as the Governors that emerged from the party, the party does not believe on coalition.”
