Former Niger State Governor Babangida Aliyu has praised former Senate President Bukola Saraki for remaining with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) instead of following former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s exit, contrasting it with Saraki’s 2014 departure ahead of the 2015 elections.

Speaking in a media coverage by Symfoni TV from 2:24, Dr. Aliyu expressed satisfaction with Saraki’s current loyalty to the party. “I’m happy that Bukola Saraki has found the light and not going like he did the last time,” Aliyu stated, referencing Saraki’s previous party switch.

The former governor criticized what he described as a pattern of political opportunism among some former party candidates, particularly recalling events at a Port Harcourt convention in 2019. “When we went to Port Harcourt, number one, number two, number three number four, number five, out of the 12 candidates all were nomadic politicians,” he said, describing multiple aspirants as party-hoppers.

He emphasized the importance of party discipline and adherence to constitutional provisions regarding member loyalty. “And I’m happy that we are now talking about reward and punishment. Our constitution is specific. You leave the party, you join the queue. Our party is not just to win elections. The party is also to ensure the culture of sane real principled politics. So even if we don’t win elections, remain in the party,” he asserted.

The former governor of Niger State urged party leaders to focus on revitalizing the PDP, expressing confidence in the party’s eventual resurrection. He emphasized the party’s unity and principled foundation, predicting that it would regain public recognition and relevance.

The former governor advised party members to concentrate on constructive activities rather than seeking approval from individuals who prioritize personal interests over collective welfare.

According to him, the PDP must transform into an organization that values merit and genuinely represents the people’s interests. He called for the creation of a party capable of uniting the entire country, rather than serving as a vehicle for individual enrichment by politicians.
