Lagos PDP chieftain, Dr. Adetokunbo Pearse has addressed the growing buzz surrounding former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to an interview on TVC News on Friday from 13:04, July 18, 2025, he asserted that the move does not pose a significant threat to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to Pearse, the ADC’s apparent strength is superficial, and Atiku’s decision to join the party is unlikely to shift the political tide in its favor.

Pearse emphasized that the ADC, despite its recent emergence and the attention it has garnered, lacks the substance to become a formidable force.

He argued that the public and media’s concern over the ADC’s rise is exaggerated, as the party’s foundation appears shaky and unsustainable.

Reflecting on Atiku’s political history, Pearse pointed out that the former vice president has consistently struggled to secure electoral victories.

He described Atiku’s move to the ADC as another in a series of miscalculated decisions, unlikely to yield the desired political breakthrough.

While acknowledging the public’s fascination with the ADC’s rise, Pearse urged PDP members and Nigerians to remain unfazed.

He believes the party’s apparent strength is a mirage, lacking the depth needed to challenge established political heavyweights like the PDP.

In his words, “I think what is creating waves now and giving concerns to members of the PDP and the general public is the fact that a new party has emerged, the ADC. An it is looking on the surface, in appearance, to be very formidable, and Atiku going to that party is giving the impression, however, in my opinion, it’s uncalled for concern, because the ADC I think, is dead on arrival. I told you, it’s an appearance of strength and a lot of people in the general public, even in the media, they seem concerned that Atiku going to ADC has given them a form of momentum. Atiku has always miscalculated, has he ever won any election? Never in his career, and that is because he is not resilient, he’s not focused, he isn’t strategic, and he’s not patient.”
