Atedo Peterside, the founder of Anap Foundation and Anap Jets, has offered his take on a message shared by Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State. El-Rufai had earlier posted a statement by Chuks Emeka, who addressed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directly with strong criticism.
In the shared message, Chuks Emeka introduced himself as an “Igbo Nigerian” and accused President Tinubu of favoritism towards individuals of Yoruba descent in his appointments. Emeka also took issue with a recent letter sent by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, regarding an invitation.
Emeka’s words included:
“As someone from the Igbo ethnic group, it is deeply upsetting and demoralizing to witness the police summon Emir Sanusi II merely for engaging in a peaceful and respectful Eid visit. This issue extends beyond the North; it’s a shameful episode for the entire nation.”
After this message gained attention online, Atedo Peterside responded through his official handle on X (formerly Twitter). He thanked El-Rufai for amplifying the message but expressed a personal opinion about Emeka’s choice of words. Peterside suggested the message would have been more impactful if Emeka had spoken as a “Concerned Nigerian” rather than emphasizing his ethnic identity.
Peterside stated:
“Assuming Chuks Emeka is a real individual, I’d like to note that he would have been better off making his point simply as a ‘Concerned Nigerian.’ The fact that he is Igbo should not be the focus. His message is insightful and echoes my own belief that political actors should not manipulate the police or other national agencies to discredit or undermine our traditional institutions.”
